Take Action
There are many ways you can get involved in efforts to secure vulnerable nuclear (fissile) materials.
- Join one of the FMWG organizations. By joining one of the groups, you’ll receive their action alerts, invites to events on the topic, and more.
- Educate yourself and friends. Check out the following resources – from both non-governmental organizations and the U.S. Government:
- FMWG Resources.
- Stanley Foundation’s “Radioactive Challenge” Event-in-a-Box toolkit (free). Organize a viewing party and educate your friends and family about the dangers of vulnerable nuclear materials.
- Attend public education events.
- Check out the State Department’s Office of Cooperative Threat Reduction.
- Call your congressional representatives and ask them what they are doing to secure vulnerable fissile materials. You can locate them on the Senate and House of Representatives websites.
- Contact the White House and learn more about their efforts.
- Write an op-ed or letter to the editor for your local newspaper, explaining why you care about nuclear security efforts. Before you start, read "Top Ten Tips for Writing and Placing Op-eds" from ReThink Media.
